Haiku Monday: Fire

Summer's spacious skies.
Careless flick of a Kool butt:
amber waves of grain.

  1. The gloves on the dame look like something out of Dr. Strangelove. At least I think they're gloves. Or maybe you've happened upon reptilian stock photography. What the hell is going on there?

  2. Oh, Csar...I am happy to break this down for you: the photo is from the 1930s and those kind of driving gloves (most likely kid leather, not reptilian) were in fashion. The lady is lighting her man's cigarette, and he is leaning in when he should be keeping his eyes on the road. But, since it's the 1930s, he probably isn't going that fast, even though they are driving in the country taking advantage of the vast expanses that make up America. (Spacious skies, get it?) Though this looks very glamorous and romantic (per Grins), you and I know that smoking cigarettes is just an awful habit; and, if there's one thing I hate more than walking behind a smoker on the sidewalk or running a smoky gauntlet to get into a building, it's people who litter--particularly with their cigarette butts. In my haiku, these people flick their butts out of the convertible onto a ripe wheatfield, creating a conflagration that wipes out an entire summer harvest. Amber waves of grain: get it? The amber refers to the flames. Sure, people consider me the Jacqueline Susanne of Haiku Monday...but I am deep, too. Hope that helps!

  3. Yeah, I got it all, Fleur. And loved it. Such innocence. Oh, sure, they thought they were avant garde, worldly, and racing the wind. Today they would merely be having a fling, that would end with an empty nest and two singularly unhappy people, just heading to death. Then? They settled their whims with a family. The gloves went the way of the diapers, and the free time went the way of work. But they did have their moment, and came to realize what they gained from their loss was all that mattered.

    Thanks for the... memories.

    1. Doom, wow. You REALLY got it. I am basking in your appreciation right now.

And, of course, I don't always like to s p e l l out the contents of my haiku, but I'd do anything for the Csar. (You see, he is what they call "book smart" and I am more "street smart" so I have to help him out sometimes.) LOL! And if you believe that... but thanks for the lovely comments.

    2. I think I had the haiku. Those gloves freaked me out. Skin-tight on the hands? You can see her nails and her bone structure. It's like leather on the forearms and latex below the wrist.

    3. Flerudeleo,

      Czar,

I've had gloves like that. It's just an illusion, they aren't that tight, the "bones" are built in, the scrunch is to make the wrists seem thinner/thicker as you desire to a degree. At one time I was very uncomfortable with human touch, even accidental, so had many types of gloves, all skin tight, or appearing. Oh, wouldn't you know, a woman brought me back from that edge.
